Combat

Combat (2013) is a work produced in response to education and social housing funding cuts in The Netherlands.
Holland based artist Ehsan Fardjadniya took to the streets with his ping-pong table to a number of contexts of frustration. Contrary to prohibitions toward demonstrations in public areas, leisure activities are tolerated in public areas in The Netherlands, so art students organised a 48 h ping pong event protest, wheeling the ping pong table around as police forces asked them to move. At the same time, an unfortunately familiar situation was taking place in an iconic neighbourhood in The Hague, where social houses had been sold to a developer and the people who lived in them were dispersed and relocated.

Putting profit before people meant in this case a loss of access to education and loss of community. I documented the now demolished social houses and transferred two of these images onto the ping pong racket surfaces.
