Film, sound and text piece (2010-2011)

Polaroid is a time based media work that consists of two recordings of the development process of a Polaroid picture. This picture (of a little girl) is then described from memory in the two mother tongues of her respective parents. The transcription of both texts is then translated into English using CAT (computer assisted translation) programme. This work hopes to allude to photography as a carrier and anchor of memory. It also wants to refer to English as a language that offers a common ground from which different cultures can meet and, albeit with a hint of comical misunderstanding, reach a working level of communication.
